Reflective Writing of Week 1

  I really should have done this reflection in first weekend after class because I can only recall bit things had happened during the class like we had the first task which needed us to make a Flying Object with a piece of paper in 10 minutes and we have to test it. Well,our group decided to use a stone to be wrapped however most people just made a paper airplane.But the most impressed me was that one group did write one sentence on the paper like "flying object, please fax it to London" It is really smart,isn't it.

  I was confused by this APPT Course before but now I think this course is really an essential training whatever it is related to our major.Because when we set to wore accumulating a huge mass of knowledges from industry we should learn more
effective and creative methods,we 'd better do it.

Reflective Writing of Week 3 about Communiction

  I was impressed with the Video we had watched in the morning and I think it was a really good start for today.
  The most interesting thing I recon is how to communicate with people from different countries and this is also the biggest challenge to me.For example in our group we have 5 teammates from 4 countries like Franch China Samoa and New Zealand even though we all speak English,we still have different individual habits,cultures background,speaking accent and the methods we solve problems etc.So it is really essential to communicate effectively if we want to achieve our group project very well in the next a couple o months.
  After a brainstorm in library,we have made a Power Point for our presentation in classroom although it is not really gorgeous and it also exposed that we need better organization in division when presenting.Well it was a good start because all our guys have the chance to come to the front for talking to other students,that is a good try.
  I think if we can make a very good communication during our project time,we would finish half way toward victory.

Power calculations.

Planing Boats Power calculation formula :
Kts = C / (LB/SHP)0.5

so if I want to get the estimated HP of a given boat I can:
SHP = KTS2 x LB/C2

for example
If a given boat, the speed is 28knots
displacement 12,000 pounds
we can know C :150
so
Shp = 28x28x12000/150x150
       = 418
consideration of the losses during the process 70%
so
Shp = 418/70%
       =597
that means 298hp each engine.

all about Hull

This afternoon we have got a task which needs us to investigate the relationship between power installed and the type of the boat.
For a 13 meter boat which could be Sailing boat ,Planing boat and Displacement commercial boat.Students were divided into 3 groups that will present every single type on 24 Mar.
Our task is Planing boat and we  are going to use google doc to communicate with each other.
Do we need a PPT for presenting the information or something else that could make it better ???
Do we need to hop to somewhere like boat show rooms or repairing factories in marina to ask their staffs ???

Anyway before everything being started, i was bit confused by the Planing boat.
I repeatedly ask myself this question --What is the marine definition of Planing boat?
Well,I guess it classified according to the different types of the hull shape.

this link on below is a really clear classification.

Reflection about reading chapter 1 of Boat Mechanical Systems"

Drivetrain Installation
I have to agree with Lana who said if one program named with "System" that this program would be a very big topic---lots of disparate elements working together.
The first thing in this Drivetrain System I have read about was Propellers and Shafts in chapter one from where I have understood some knolwedges like how to intstall the prop nuts properly,the significance of DAR and how to figured out the minimum diameter required for hulls as that is the way to check if a given boat is in the right range for blade area(DAR or BAR).
But I think I still need to get more and better  understanding of the knowledges about cavitation.

new semester ,new challenges

Propeller
Drivetrain
Strut
Bearing
Torque
etc.........
There are lots of new terms coming to me.
